I have been asked by many to explain my reasons for writing a book, with some commenting that I was cashing in on the war and saying that it's morally wrong. In fact this is to be the opposite with it costing me money to see my work in print. I have no desire to become the next Booker prizewinner.
My reason for writing the book was very simple. I have a vision that one day in the future; my children can read about what Dad did when he went away to that place they heard about on the news each and every day. They would be able to give this book to their children and say “that’s what your Granddad did in 2003”. To leave your mark in anything you do has to be a good thing for your family.
